Certification and Licensing in
Residential Construction.
The Atlantic Home Building &
Renovation Sector Council has
dedicated more than six years to
research and consultation with
its industry partners concerning
development and introduction of
a mandatory licensing system for
home builders and certification
system for carpenters in Nova
Scotia. During the past three
years, the Sector Council has
been working with the Province
of Nova Scotia in order to
identify and address issues that
might arise from the
introduction of a mandatory
licensing system and to evaluate
both industry-driven and
government-driven models for a
licensing system. The Province
of Nova Scotia has recently
indicated that it expects to
make a decision by March 2011 as
to which model of licensing
system will be established.
