Should home builders and renovators be licensed?
Government regulations protect us by requiring electricians and plumbers
to be licensed as trained professionals. Why not the builders, renovators and
carpenters who are responsible for most of the structural work? Would a
licensing program be good business for both consumers and the industry?
We say yes, because with professionals on the job, everyone wins.
Public confidence in the home building and renovation industry is being
damaged by unregulated, fly-by-night builders. Professional builders and
renovators are committed to product quality, consumer protection, skills
upgrading, home warranty coverage, and adherence to the building code
and health and safety regulations. If you are interested in promoting higher
standards for consumer protection and professionalism in home building
and renovation.
We're looking for your opinions on these issues at an
industry-sponsored focus group coming soon to your area.
If you build or renovate homes for a living, you are invited to attend a Focus Group
Session on an Action Plan for Licensing & Certification in Nova Scotia.
